Plein Air Painting in Algonquin Provincial Park

This August, my dad and a few friends spent 6 nights canoe camping in Algonquin Provincial Park. The first day was a bit brutal with a late start and many portages (including one over a mile long) leading us to arrive at our campsite after 7pm with little time to find a place to hang our bear bag, setup tents, and cook dinner. The campsite was small and not much room for our 3 tents and my hammock. Luckily I had decided to switch to a hammock tent for this trip and I didn't need a clear or flat spot to setup. Just two trees reasonably close together.

The next day we planned to stay at the same camp site, so I had some free time to get out my watercolor paints. There was an interesting dead tree across a little bay I decided to paint.

A loon showed up beyond the tree as I was painting. I tried to incorporate it in the foreground.

There seemed to be purple loosestrife growing everywhere in Canada. At the campsite there was a small patch right next to the shore. I didn't have the right palette with me to reproduce the purple color, but still tried to capture the flower.

Check out the campsite and map of the area on Gaia GPS:
